Innovative Buying a Dealership in the Dakotas

Progressive US independent dealer Innovative Office Solutions has begun 2018 with another major acquisition that gives it a strong presence in the Dakotas market.

Innovative has acquired Sioux Falls-based Brown & Saenger, a dealership that was founded in 1889 and which now has ten locations across North and South Dakota.

In a statement, Innovative CEO Jennifer Smith said: “This acquisition will combine two of the strongest independent dealers in the Upper Midwest and will enable us to provide even more services and solutions to our customers, and new opportunities for our employees and supplier partners.”

Lyle Dabbert – who first joined Brown & Saenger in 1973 and went on to buy the company in 1991 – confirmed to OPI that he is staying on as President of Innovative’s Dakotas operations in a similar role to the one he already occupied.

“They [Innovative] are a dynamic organization and the timing felt right,” he said of the deal.

Dabbert is a former Chairman of dealer group TriMega and played a key role in establishing the current structure of the group via the merger with NPA in 2002. Therefore, selling his business to Pinnacle Affiliates member Innovative might be seen as a blow for the TriMega group.

In fact, the opposite is true.

Innovative has left Pinnacle and is currently finalizing the paperwork for its membership of TriMega. That is certainly a positive development for TriMega and its DSC group for larger dealers. - (OPI)
