FedEx Planning 500 New Walmart Spots

Delivery giant FedEx has partnered with Walmart to roll out 500 new FedEx Office locations across the mega retailer’s stores.

Planned over the next 24 months, it is part of FedEx’s US-wide retail channel expansion and comes after a successful pilot program.

The small-format FedEx Office shops offer customers access to packing, shipping and printing solutions within Walmart’s stores.

FedEx Office CEO Brian Philips said: “The growth of our store network to 500 new locations brings our brand even closer to busy consumers who have told us they are seeking secure, reliable options for packing, shipping and receiving packages.”

FedEx’s retail expansion will likely have implications for copy and print dealers in the US as well as the large OP resellers such as Staples and Office Depot, which are already having to compete with pressure from online.

In recent years, FedEx has launched collection and delivery locations within other key retailers including Office Depot and Walgreens, but the partnership with Walmart is FedEx’s boldest retail move to date.

For Walmart, in-store FedEx shops only add to its expanding number of services it hopes will increase footfall and draw customers away from the likes of Amazon. - (OPI)
